If you are just getting into the sport of golf, you have probably heard thousands of golf tips from well-meaning golfers. However, what many golfers fail to realize is that many of the golf tips that work well for one golfer, simply do not work well for another. Here are some golf tips that work well for everyone.

As a beginner, do not rush out and buy a set of high priced clubs. Buy a set of used clubs, or better yet rent your clubs. Take a little time to see if you really enjoy the game of golf, and if you will stick to it first. The used or rented clubs won�t be the top of the line, but they will get you through several games of golf to see if you are going to stick with it. This is also a good opportunity to start researching exactly what clubs you need when you are ready to buy a new set.

Golf is fun, but the sport should not be taken lightly. It is a sport � it isn�t just a bunch of retired men knocking a ball around. It takes a great deal of skill and technique to master the game. The pros you see on television make it look quite simple � but it isn�t. The concepts you will learn from more experienced golfers will sound easy � and look easy � in theory, but in practice, they are quite difficult. The sooner you realize this, the faster you will start to improve your game.

While golf does require skill and technique, it is still meant to be enjoyed and the experience should be relaxing. If you get angry over bad shots or you find that you are not enjoying the game, you should back up and re-evaluate your reasons for playing the game. Try to look at things from a new perspective. It is a game that tests your skill � but it should not test your patience!

Choose your golf aids carefully. A great deal of money can be wasted on aids, courses, and videos that turn out to not be any help at all. When possible, buy used aids, courses, and videos. Save your golfing money for more important things � like clubs, balls, and tees! Used clubs aren�t very good � used training equipment usually works quite well.

Golf is great exercise. Riding in a golf cart defeats that purpose though. Walk, don�t ride! Save the cart for the days when you really are too old to walk a short distance � take advantage of the exercise that you will get by walking from one tee to the next, and take the time to actually enjoy the walk!

Alcohol is often served at the clubhouse � but you should wait until you finish your round of golf before consuming any. First, the alcohol will greatly alter your game. Second, alcohol is a dehydrating substance, and this isn�t safe in the hot sun. Carry water with you during your game, and make sure you drink plenty of it!

Becoming good at the game takes a lot of practice. Use your practice sessions to learn what mistakes you are making, and work to correct them. Don�t just keep making the same mistakes over and over, thinking that it doesn�t matter, or that it is too hard to learn! If you�re going to play, play to win!

Use training aids, and if possible, video tape yourself playing a round of golf, making sure that you get close up shots of you teeing off, close up shots of the club hitting the ball on the tee-off, and even shots of you putting. Have a friend run the camera for you for best results, and review the tape in slow motion to see what needs the most work.

The most important golf tips you will ever receive are the ones that focus on good sportsmanship. Never make fun of other players. Some people do look funny playing golf � but those funny looking people can probably beat every aspect of your game, and they will have the last laugh. Be respectful of your fellow golfers, and listen closely to the advice of the seasoned players.

Fat Shots
Hitting the ground before the ball, or "fat shots" is a very common problem that can lead to injury. This is caused by either coming into the ball too steeply, and/or decelerating the club head as you hit the ball. Proper weight shift is important and keeping your right shoulder back on the downswing (opposite for left handers) is crucial. There is a tendency to throw the right shoulder ahead as you come down creating an outside in steep club path. Focus on swinging more around your body to remedy this. A good drill is to strap your upper arms to your body and hit balls. This makes it impossible to throw the shoulder forward. Don't forget to accelerate through the ball. When you slow down at the bottom of your swing, you will hit it fat every time.

All golfers should use standard length clubs unless he or she is short or tall. Standard length clubs allow players to hit the ball on center a higher percentage of the time, thus increasing distance and accuracy. In recent years, light weight Titanium driver heads and Ultralight graphite shafts have extended driver playing lengths from a standard 43-431/2" to 44-46". This is good news and bad news. The good news is, when you increase length, you will increase distance. The longer the club, the more club head speed generated , thus more distance. The bad news is, the longer the club the more difficult it is to control, thus less accuracy. To put this into perspective, the following information will be helpful. A driver hit on center at 43" = 250 yds. 43 1/2"= 262 yds. 44" = 270 yds. 44 1/2" = 275 yds. 45" = 275-280 yds. As you can see a significant increase in distance is achieved up to 44". After 44", distance increases only a minimal amount . CONCLUSION - It is not worth sacrificing accuracy for the minimal amount of distance gained past 44". Keep driver playing lengths to 44" or less

Starting in the game of golf can be confusing with all of the equipment available, people offering you free tips, and the feeling that you have to take everything so seriously. There are three golf tips for beginners that I was given by my instructor when I started, and that has really been a big help to me.

1. Don't Break the Bank With Your First Set of Clubs

As a beginner, you are not going to get all of the benefits that come from a top of the line set of golf clubs. As a beginner, you are not going to have the consistent contact or club head speed needed. Instead, think about buying a cheaper set, or better yet, get yourself a used set. You may also be able to use a free set from one of your more experienced friends until you figure out which clubs would be best for you.

2. Be Aware of Who is Giving You Instruction

Your friends, relatives, and sometimes people who don't even know you will think they have the golf tips for beginners that will fix all of your problems. Granted, if you have friends who are pretty good golfers, it may help to listen to them when you are first starting. However, to really understand the game, as a beginner, get your instruction from a professional. Golf pros are experienced in fixing swing problems and explaining things to you in terms of how they affect ball flight. Lessons are available at most any golf course, and even just a couple will really help set a good foundation for your game.

3. Enjoy Yourself

It may sound simple, but one of the best golf tips for beginners is to just have fun with the game. Keep in mind that you are probably not going to be getting your PGA card. Specific Goals And Objectives Of Golf

All the parts of golf that may be used in playing a round of golf. By improving a few or many of these parts reflects in your overall score.

So if you have a goal to improve your scores, first work out what your personal par is for a course. Use your handicap or an average of your last five scores. Then have a look at these scores and work out how many birdies, pars,bogeys, double bogeys or worse you have.

Eliminating your bad holes is usually the best way to reduce your scores. Work out how many tee shots you hit in the fairway, greens you hit in regulation, up and downs, total putts, putts per green in regulation, number of greens you can hit from 100 and 50 metres, and sand saves. Then set goals for improvement in each area.

If you are 18 handicap or above and your scores are over 90, your green in regulation calculation will be one more as your par score is really a bogey.

Next, work out how well you can play shots to targets. If you know your percentages of success with certain shots, it will help your decision making on the course. You will avoid the high risk shots that if missed will put you in areas where you face a difficult shot with a low success rate and therefore make higher scores than taking a conservative approach.

If you see that there are shots that are difficult for you or you see areas that need improvement, then you can start to set technique goals. The better your fundamentals, the more consistent your game will be. Then there are small adjustments to the way you play a shot that add variations to help in certain situations.

You might go to your pro to find out some new shots or play with better players and ask them. Wherever you get your knowledge, you'll need to do some practice to master them. So that's the next area to set your goals.

What are you going to practice? How long are you going to practice? Where are you going to practice? How can you tell if the practice is working? That's a lot to keep track of, but it is the only way to get better.

Keep Your Hands Low
Limiting the height of the followthrough will effectively reduce the height of your shots. The lower the hands, the lower the ballflight. Moving the ball back in your stance or choosing a stronger club and trying to swing easy are other ways to accomplish the same thing, but they're less reliable and more difficult to execute. Instead, keep your hands low in the finish (compare the two photos at right), and the trajectory of your shots will be lower.

Assuming that you have a driver with enough loft, here are four things that you can do to increase launch and decrease spin rate, thus increasing your distance off the tee:

To check to see if the wrists are in the proper position that was mentioned above, swing the club half-way back about hip-level high with the clubshaft in the position horizontal to the ground. If the left wrist is in this flat position the clubface will be parallel to the target line, or the toe of the club will be pointing vertically towards the sky. Half-way through the forward swing with the shaft horizontal to the ground again the clubface should be parallel to your target line or toe facing upwards towards the sky. In these positions the left wrist has remained in the flat position throughout your entire swing which translates into a solid straight shot on line to your target. Finally, remember that any attempt to hit the ball with your hands will force the wrists out of position, and the cause them to break down which results in wayward shots.

Address: The process of placing the club behind the ball and taking a stance in preparation of hitting it.
Alignment: Having the shoulders, hips, knees and feet in proper alignment with each other.
Aim: Having the shoulders, hips, knees and feet properly aligned and pointed in the same direction, usually at a 90-degree angle to the target.
Backspin: The spin of a ball where the forward area of the ball rotates over the top area of the ball causing the ball�s forward movement to slow on impact.
Backswing: The start of the swing as the club moves away from the target.
Ball Flight: The path and trajectory of a ball while in the air.
Closed Club Face: Occurs when the club face is turned slightly counterclockwise
within the swing path. Can cause the ball to hook.
Club Face: The front of the club, which makes contact with the ball.
Compensation: A movement for the purpose of overcoming another flawed motion.
Divot: The mark left in the fairway or rough, caused by the removal of turf by an iron. Indicates the [proper] descending blow of an iron.
Downhill Lie: The angle caused by the ball being on a downward sloping hill.
Draw: The flight of a ball where it bends slightly to the inside, relative to the swing.
Fade: The flight of a ball where it bends slightly to the outside, relative to the swing.
Flier Lie: The lie of a ball on fluffy grass, which causes the ball to pop up more quickly than expected.
Green: The manicured portion of the hole where the cup resides.
Grip: The rubber, plastic or leather sheath on the shaft.
Heel: Where the club head is attached to the shaft.
Hook: The flight of a ball where it bends sharply to the inside, relative to the swing.
Inside Path: The path of the club when it is inside the plane.
Lie: How the ball is sitting (good, bad, flier, etc.)
Lie Angle: The angle of the club shaft in relation to the sole of the club head.
Loft: The face angle relative to the sole of the club head.
Open Club Face: Occurs when the club face is turned slightly clockwise within the swing path. Can cause the ball to slice.
Outside Path: The path of the club when it is outside the plane.
Par: The number of strokes designated by the golf course for each hole and tallied for a total amount. Most 18-hole courses are between 70 and 72.
Pivot: The turning or �coiling� of the upper body during the swing.
Pull: Ball flight characterized by going straight and left of the target
Pull Hook: Ball flight characterized by starting left of the target and bending/curving even more.
Push: Ball flight characterized by going straight and right of the target
Push Slice: Ball flight characterized by starting right of the target and bending/curving even more.
Shank: Hitting the ball off the heel area of the club, which causes the ball to squirt low and to the inside.
Slice: The flight of a ball where it bends sharply to the outside, relative to the swing.
Square Club Face: Occurs when the club face is perpendicular to the swing path.
Sweet Spot: The area on the face of a club where the impact is most beneficial, as designed by the manufacturer.
Toe: The outside of the club, or part of the club head opposite the heel.
Unplayable Lie: A lie where the ball cannot be played due to natural obstructions. See the Rules for details on penalties.

Wanna be a good putter? Here are some basic fundamentals you should be practicing.
--Get a putter with a very distinct line marked on it to indicate the target line and practice with a chalk line. You can get a chalk line at any hardware store for 5 or 6 bucks, and it's as valuable a training aid as there is anywhere. Find a putt on the practice green that is straight. Snap a chalk line down from about 5 or 6 feet to the middle of the cup. Make sure that the entire length of the line on your putter is exactly on the chalk line. Start making putts. This will train your eyes to "see square" precisely.
--Keep your the pressure in your hands soft and constant throughout the stroke. Sensitivity is obviously a huge part of putting. If your hands are tight on the grip you are diminishing your sensitivity - period. Also, if your grip pressure changes during the stroke, it's probably not "a stroke" but more likely a jab, flinch, spasm, push, hit ... well, you get the point -- good luck with that kind of technique.
--There is no independent action in the hands. Nothing could be more logical: If you do indeed have the putter face aligned precisely, as in the first point above, the last thing you'd want to do is to change the position of the face. Therefore, your hands should not be moving independently of your arms and shoulders. To see if your hands are moving, as a drill try watching your hands very carefully (instead of the ball) a few times. You'll see what your hands are doing quite easily.

Golf Stance And Its Physical Requirements

Golf stance is one of the most ignored terms and issues in the golf swing and yet the golf stance dictates the success of every golf swing you make.

When golfers think of golf stance, they don�t realize how hard it is to maintain over 18 holes (four and a half hours). Just take a look at the position your body is in during your set up. There are many physical issues taking place, even though it is a static position at the start.

Let�s go over the physical requirements of the golf stance right now.

Bend At Hips To Address Golf Ball

To achieve this initial movement takes strength and flexibility in not only the lower back, but the hamstrings and core muscle groups. If these muscle groups are limited, you will have a very difficult time achieving this simple move.

Flex In The Knees

A combination of bending at the hips and knees allows you to get to the ball. The shorter the club, the more the bend at both the hips and knees. If your quadriceps are weak, you will have a very difficult time maintaining the proper knee flex therefore causing you to create in improper golf stance�resulting in mishits and lack of distance.

Ankle Flexion

Take a look at the ankle joint of any golfer. It is definitely bent (flexed) to accommodate the bending of the knees and hips. If your calf muscles are weak/or tight, you will find it very uncomfortable to stay down at the ball. I see so many golfers with tight calf muscles and they never even knew it.

Spine Extension (Erectness)

This is a BIGGY! How many times have you seen the golfer (maybe even you) in his/her golf stance with the dread �camels back?� This is very common among older golfers and is a KILLER in the golf swing. I could (and probably will) write a complete article on this physical limitation. But the bottom line is a rounded (weak) upper spine will dramatically hinder your ability to make a full backswing. Result: very short drives and a lot of embarrassment.

I just briefly covered just a couple of physical requirements of the golf stance, but I hope you know see the importance of addressing your physical limitations to achieve the end result.

A very important factor in striking the ball solidly and consistently with your irons is getting the "bottom" of your swing in front of the ball (i.e., the lowest spot in the swing's arc on the target side of the ball). Divot diagram This promotes contacting the ball before the ground (this is a good idea). You can develop a feel for this by scratching a line on the ground with a tee, or making a row of tees spaced about 6 inches apart, perpendicular to your target line. Straddle the line and take divots until you consistently make the divots in front of (toward the target from) the line, or row of tees. You can certainly hit balls this way too -- with the balls on the line or between each of the tees. Once you can do this you'll hit your iron shots much more solidly and with more control.

To start with a proven ball position. Moving a golf ball even two inches forward or back in your stance can make a great deal of difference in shot consistency. WHAT PLAYING WITH THE PROPER SHAFT FLEX WILL DO FOR YOUR GAME

If you want to avoid giving your game the shaft, you need to understand the effect that shaft flex has on your game. "Flex" refers to the ability of a golf shaft to bend as forces are applied to it during theperfect golf swing. Those forces are generated by the type of swing that you have -fast or slow, smooth or jerky. In our case of assembly also applied to this formula is the process of the Swingweighting & Balancing, which helps to assure that you have a repeatable and consistent swing that allows for more sweet spot contact as well as maximum shaft flex. The club which is an extension of your arms is guided thru the swing process and then by the way it has been assembled properly to your Personal Measurements and Playing Abilities will do all of the work for you properly, each and everytime and with each and every club.

There are five basic levels for shaft flex:
� Extra Stiff
� Stiff
� Regular
� Senior
� Ladies

To avoid having to carry double the amount of shafts, clubmakers carry what is called combination flex shafts, which means that the tip needs to be trimmed properly to get the proper flex for that particular shaft. They arrive as A/L Flex and R/S Flex. So it is then the Clubmaker that makes the shaft perform to it's proper flex by trimming it properly as stated by the shaft manufacturer. Having a flex that doesn't match the needs of your swing will result in the clubface coming into impact off alignment and either open or closed, causing your shots to go off-target, and most of all causing the loss of distance and trajectory. While causing you to have to swing harder or softer then you should be if you are swinging with the proper amount of swingspeed which is 80% of your maximum power. Thats 80% of your max while still being able to stay in a solid swing foundation. Shaft flex impacts, either directly or indirectly, the accuracy, trajectory and distance of your shot. Three pretty important things, with the missing key element being the ability to utilize the " Effortless Swing " which helps assure that you stay in a solid swing foundation throughout the entire rotation of your swing! As the shaft flexes throughout the swing, the position of the clubhead changes. And the face of the club must be square (perfectly straight) at impact. If you have clubs with a shaft flex that is not stiff enough, the clubhead will be tend to be closed at impact, sending the ball out to the left (for right-handed players). If the flex of your clubs is too stiff, the clubface will tend to be open, sending the ball out to the right. As well as have the main factors that are found alot more which are listed above in the loss of trajectory and distance. You can play good golf with clubs that are to stiff, but with the proper flex, you will play better, longer golf with less effort, which makes for a nicer outing, and less aches and pains after returning home.

QUESTIONS TO LOOK AT TO HELP NARROW IN ON THE PROPER FLEX

The degree of flex in your club shafts is something you control. You can choose to buy stiffer shafts, or softer shafts, depending on your needs or what you think your needs are, which mostly is inaccurate. As the 2 biggest problems Golfer's face today is playing with clubs that are not the proper playing length, or are not the proper flex for their ability. This only makes trying to lower golf scores all that much harder. But how can you tell what you need?

Here are some general guidelines:
-Take a look at which club it is that you use to carry the ball 150 yards in the air, with a smooth,fluent even tempoed swing. Also that you hit the most consistent without feeling as if you are swinging out of your shoes, a nice 80% power solid foundation swing. If you come up with a 4 or 5 iron, then you would benefit from an A Flex, or a firm A soft R Flex,(in between flex tipr trim), if you use a 6 or 7 iron then you are looking at a R Flex, 8, 9 or PW would say S Flex, but as a rule of thumb if you are an 8 iron or an 8 some times but mostly a 7 then R Flex is the way to go. Only if you truly are hitting a 9 iron or PW for 150 yards should S Flex be a thought. The biggest killer of trajectory and Distance is playing with to Stiff a Flex. Just think of a Diving Board, to stiff no height ,no distance, spring board, alot more height and distance. This is the method we have used and quite effectively if you read our 250+ Reviews, since the Swingweighting & Balancing that we perform also comes into play. Which when all is said and done enables you to take a much easier and controlled swing which will result in more accuracy and distance with alot less effort, " The Effortless Swing ".
-Most Men think just because they are big they need to hit Stiff shafts. It's a guy thing. The grip most certainly will influence the clubhead, but any type of grip that will keep the wrists from opening or closing the blade is a good grip regardless of how the hands grip the club. Whatever grip is chosen the thumbs should be on top. The thumbs are the feelers and being on top one can feel if the blade is square. The Secret And Crucial Role Of Alignment In Supercharging Your Game!

The alignment is an absolutely crucial and vital part to any golfer�s game. You swing round your body, therefore if your body is offline, your swing in turn will be off line and out of sync, resulting in a poor swing and a poor shot, usually ending up deep in the rough.

When setting up to the ball, firstly ensure the clubface is square to the �ball to pin line� (the line between the ball and the pin), and ensure that your shoulders, hips and feet are all parallel to the �ball to pin line�, if these 3 are not aligned and one is out, a good body turn is ruined with a poor swing resulting.

When training, on the driving range or wherever you can practise, a useful technique for lining up is to place a club on the floor and check that you�re your feet, hips and shoulders line up with each other, the shoulder alignment is particularly crucial because your body turn starts with your shoulders.

Ideally, you should be lining your body up slightly to the left of the target (slightly to the right for left hand players), as opposed to trying to line your body up with the target itself.

On the course a simple test to see if this is the case, is to look at the target, if you can see your left shoulder, then you are lined up to too far to the right (visa versa for lefthanders), your shoulder should be just out of sight.

Poor Alignment can have several affects, these are all negative. Aligning too far to the left most commonly leads to the slicing of the ball, this occurs because you are not parallel to the line running from ball to pin. As a result the backswing is limited so an �out to in� swing results. As a consequence the club face is slightly open on impact which generates side spin on the ball. This leads to the common problem which is the slice which I will explain in another article.

If you align too far to the right, the opposite will take place and a hook will occur due to the �in to out� swing of the club, although quite common with beginners and inexperienced players.

Often they will subconsciously become aware of this and try to adjust mid-swing, over adjusting by opening up the clubface as impact approaches. This again results in the slicing of the ball, which is very difficult to control and usually leads to �the rough�.

Alignment is an often overlooked and crucial part to any golfer�s game and therefore must be addressed for you to succeed at any level of golf. For as long as you�re alignment is out, you will never be able to consistently hit straight accurate shots and will increasingly find yourself hooking or slicing into the rough, turning those pars into bogies and taking your round from a 75 to 85.

Wie will try to shake off rust at German Open

Michelle Wie will make her first appearance in a full Ladies European Tour field at this week's German Open.

The 18-year-old American was given a sponsor's invitation to play in the event, which begins Thursday. A sore wrist hurt in March and studies at Stanford University have limited her to just two tournaments on the LPGA Tour this year.

"I feel a lot healthier and I want to start playing more and playing some good golf," Wie said Tuesday.

If you have been playing golf for some time and don't know how to swing a golf club yet then you've got to consider whether you're really serious about improving your game.

In this article, we are not going to explain the entire procedure of swinging a club but will give you some tips on how you might improve both your golf swing and your game.

Improving Your Golf Game

All the techniques in the world will do you no good if you either:

- don't identify your swing problem areas and
- don't get the correct advice

Identifying your problem areas is a nightmare when trying to work things out on your own. One of the best ways to do this is to take a video of your golf swing. Ask a friend or someone you play with regularly to video you while you are teeing off or playing approach shots to the green.

This is a tactic more and more players are employing and one which can easily show you where you might be going wrong. If you are not experienced enough to pinpoint the problem areas then it's on to plan B.

Get Some Coaching

This is an area many will resist simply because of the cost factor. Again, how serious are you about shooting lower scores? A coach will quickly identify the areas of your swing which need attention.

Remember that video you took. Take it with you to your coaching lesson and look over it with your tutor. The attractive thing about coaching is it doesn't have to be a long term exercise unless you want it to be. The primary reason you're enlisting the services of a coach is to identify the area of your golf swing which is giving you problems. Once this has been done, it's then off to the practice fairways to work on it.

Your coach may pinpoint your deficiencies within the first few minutes eliminating the need for future sessions. There is no point in thinking coaching will cost you a fortune because it doesn't. For the sake of a few bucks, your game can improve to the next level within a short period of time.

Getting advice on how to swing a golf club shouldn't come from your playing partners particularly if they are at the same level as you. A qualified tutor is a much better proposition.
